Pierfranca Forchini, PhD
Project Director
Although movies are artifacts by nature, investigations of the AMC have revealed that their dialogs
share the same textuality and linguistic features whih characterize face-to-face conversation and
that language learners can improve their spoken competence by actively watching movies.
Starting (1) from these results, (2) from the assumption that spoken language has a primary role in communication
and (3) from the fact that despite its primacy it is rarely included in language classes,
the main idea behind the project is to offer a tool for linguistic scholars to investigate movie discourse and spoken registers
and for language learners/teachers to fill this gap and develop spoken lexico-grammatical competence.

Roots and Acknowledgements
The main idea of exploring authentic movie language and assembling movie corpora took root in 2005, when MARIA PAVESI started directing and developing what is now called the Pavia Corpus of Film Dialogue at the University of Pavia (Italy). I would like to express my great esteem for her valuable work and my sincere gratitude for her constant support throughout the years.
I would like to express my immense gratitude and esteem to DOUGLAS BIBER and RANDI REPPEN for offering time, collaboration, and friendship. Douglas Biber’s ideas, methodology and meticulous comments have had a major impact on all my work since I was a visiting scholar at Northern Arizona University (Arizona, USA) in 2008.

EXTERNAL BOARD of AUTHORITATIVE SCHOLARS
The external scientific board of authoritative scholars includes various prominent academics from disciplinary areas related to research into movie (audio-visual/screen) language, corpus linguistics and multi-dimensional analysis. The role of the board is to advise on scientific and technical aspects and to fortify the AMC scientific base, validating the foundation on which it is built, and help the AMC project establish credibility in the field.
